Training to be a Veterinary Nurse

Requirements to enrol with the

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Age - No age limits.
5 GCSE’s at grade C or above including English Language, Maths and one Science subject.

BUT

If you do not have the correct GCSE's there are other options.
Check with your local training provider such as
The College of Animal Welfare
who can provide you with advice on alternative routes.

There are then various options to choose from

1.  VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Completion of a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing over 2-3 years by either finding a job in an Approved Training Practice (ATP) of which Park Vets is one, or by enrolling on a full-time college course and gaining a placement in an ATP.

Both routes require completion of an online Nursing Progress Log (NPL), 1 or 2 days at college, a minimum of 70 full-time weeks working in a Practice and completion of written and practical exams.

2. HIGHER EDUCATION

Another option is to enrol on a university course to achieve a Bachelors or Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing. The course is between 3-4 years long and includes a large proportion of practical training in an ATP. (Please note universities will have their own entry requirements).

The RCVS can provide you with details of ATP's and training providers.

Competition for training positions is high and having relevant work experience or having completed a relevant college course will be an advantage.
